The original Dunlop Process was invented by Dunlop in 1929. Today the majority of latex foam mattresses are produced using this method, however there are large variations in quality depending on the source.
The manufacturing process of Dunlop Process Latex involves the combination of natural latex and its necessary additives (vulcanising and gelling agents, anti-oxidants etc) beaten up into a uniform foamy state. The foam is then placed into a mattress mould and filled to the top. The latex foam is produced when the liquid latex reacts with various gelling agents, and heat, and sets in the mould.
Not all Dunlop Process Latex products are the same... Sleepmaker's Dunlop Process Latex is produced with 'pin holes' in both the top and the bottom of our latex cores to allow air to circulate within the mattress. This promotes good airflow that inhibits the growth of mould, mildew and bacteria. Furthermore, we use no Fillers (chalk or calcium) in our Dunlop Process Latex, and products are manufactured in accordance with strict European Standards. Eurolatex Certification (EC – Directive 2002/740/EC).
